Shawn Dulaney's paintings are layered, color-rich abstractions that evoke the emotional depth and vastness of natural landscapes. Influenced by her childhood on a plateau overlooking the Rocky Mountains and extensive travels, her work explores the experience of place through flowing pigment and chance-derived marks. ArtNews critic Doug McClemont describes her work as deeply connected to the earth and nature's enduring force. William Zimmer of The New York Times places her within the tradition of 19th- century Northern European Romanticism, noting that her paintings reflect her inner life, combining grandeur with intimacy. Dominick Lombardi also of The Times, praises her "exquisitely painted" surfaces and nuanced use of water media on linen and paper. Dulaney views her process as a reflection of larger cosmic forces: "I explore flows of liquid pigment... to reflect meaning in the larger cosmos." Her work balances the organic unpredictability of her materials with a deliberate search for beauty and emotional resonance. She is a two-time recipient of the Pink House Artist Residency on Ireland's Beara Peninsula and will appear in three upcoming exhibitions curated by Jeannie Freilich at the new Savage Wonderground Gallery and Art Center in Beacon, NY. With over four decades of artistic practice, Dulaney is represented by Sears Peyton Gallery, Weber Fine Art, Carrie Haddad Gallery, and Beth Urdang Gallery. Shawn's father served in the reserves during the Cold War from 1946-49.
