Michael Schropp was born in Des Moines, IA in 1979. In 1985 Michael and his family moved to Opelika, AL where he lived until graduating from Opelika High School. Michael next went on to Auburn University, graduating in 2003 with a degree in Radio, Television, and Film. In 2007, Michael felt moved to serve his country fighting at the time in urban areas like Fallujah and Ramadi. Michael enlisted in the army in January of 2007, went to basic training at Fort Jackson, SC, and at the to Fort Eustis for AIT training to become an Apache Helicopter crew chief. Michael met his wife Maggie while in Germany, and had their first child, a daughter named Layla. Weeks after Layla’s birth, Michael deployed to Iraq for a year. After redeploying to Germany, Michael received new orders assigning him to Fort Bragg’s, 1-82nd CAB. Michael and Maggie welcomed their son Ryder in 2010, and later that year, Michael deployed for a year to Jalabad. Michael left the military service with the rank of Staff Sergeant in November 2014. In 2015 Michael and his family moved to Eugene, OR. In 2017 Michael enrolled in the University of Oregon where he studied Fine Art. He graduated from Oregon with a Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts in 2020, and has been a working artist ever since. His unique style has been described as brutalist surrealism, and his paintings have been sold to collectors and galleries up and down the West Coast, as well as Miami, New York, and the South East.
