David Reisman

David Reisman is an artist and writer who lives in New York City. His artwork explores abstraction, representation, and the relationship between consciousness and the unconscious, particularly dreams. His father, psychologist John M. Reisman, was a Lt. JG in the Navy during the Korean War and served on the USS Wisconsin. David Reisman’s
personal military experience was as an ROTC student at Ridgeway High School in Memphis, Tennessee. Reisman has exhibited his paintings and drawings in New York, Los Angeles, London, and Berlin, and has screened his videos at Millennium and the Museum of Modern Art. He has written about art since the late 1980s, most recently for Texte zur Kunst and Frieze. He received his BFA in painting at the University of Kansas, studied the history of art at Reading University in England, and earned an MFA in painting from the University of Illinois. Reisman also earned a doctorate in education at Teachers College Columbia University. His dissertation examines the educational development and work of six contemporary political activist artists.
